Worship Ministry

At The Village Chapel we desire that our Sunday morning musical worship be God-directed, Christ-centered and congregationally accessible. We want to be a church that sings well! The Apostle Paul directs us to do the same, “…teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” (Colossians 3:16). Musical worship is formative and helps to shape our understanding of the Gospel. We have the privilege of singing to one another, reminding each other of the matchless worth of Jesus.

An Evening of Worship & Prayer

Each week at TVC we gather to sing, pray and hear the Word taught. In doing so, we remind one another of the good news of Christ! Our desire is that our worship at TVC is both God-directed and Christ-centered. We’d love for you to join us on September 22 at 6 pm in the Chapel at our Hillsboro Village Campus for An Evening of Worship & Prayer. This evening will bring together TVCers from all Sunday services and both campuses, setting aside time to sing, pray and take the Lord’s Supper together. This will be a sweet night of corporate worship as we remind one other of the faithfulness of God as we enter the busy Fall season. Childcare available by registration.

Call To Worship

The Apostles’ Creed

We believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth,

and in Jesus Christ,

His only Son, our Lord:

Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell.

The third day He arose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven

and sits at the right hand

of God the Father Almighty,

from there He shall come

to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy universal church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting.

Amen.

Call to Worship

Almighty and Eternal God

Almighty and Eternal God,

You are hidden from my sight:

You are beyond my understanding, Your thoughts are not my thoughts, Your ways are a mystery.

Yet You make a way for me to find You, to be found by You.

You have breathed your Spirit into me. You have formed my mind to seek You. You have inclined my heart to love You. You have made me restless

for the rest that is in You.

You have planted within me

a hunger and thirst,

only satisfied by the Bread of Life, the Living Water.

Thank You, for Your waiting presence, Your tender mercies,

Your unshaming forgiveness,

Your pursuing love,

Your trustworthy refuge, thank You for courage for what You call me to.

Today, tomorrow and the next,

we give You praise, honor and glory, Almighty, and Eternal God.

Call to Worship:

Steady Dependence
John Wesley (edited)

Compose our spirits to a quiet and steady
dependence on your good providence,
that we may not be anxious for anything,
but by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving,
still make known our requests to you, our God.

Help us to pray always and not faint;
in everything to give thanks,
and offer up the sacrifice of praise continually;
to rejoice in hope of your glory;
to possess our souls in patience;
and to learn in whatsoever state we are,
there to be content.

Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen!

Call to Worship
We Give You Thanks, O Lord
For all the gracious opportunities
and privileges of the passing week,
we give You thanks, O Lord.
For the kind invitation to
keep a day as holy unto You,
we give You thanks, O Lord.
For this house of worship
and these brothers and sisters,
we give You thanks, O Lord.
For the gift of song
and a voice to raise in worship,
we give You thanks, O Lord.
For the strong assurance of the Gospel,
for Your redeeming love, and the transforming
presence of your Holy Spirit,
we give You thanks, O Lord!
As we return to the cycle of common tasks,
keep us ever grateful for your good gifts.
As we come to worship You,
be the fountain of refreshment for our souls,
the purifying wind that cleanses our imaginations,
and the light that illuminates our minds
to see the timeless truths of Your Word.
We pray these things in the matchless
name of Jesus Christ, our Lord.
Amen!

Psalm 95

Leader:

Oh come, let us sing to the Lord;

let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!

Women:

Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving;

let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!

Men:

For the Lord is a great God,

and a great King above all gods.

Leader:

In his hand are the depths of the earth;

the heights of the mountains are his also.

The sea is his, for he made it,

and his hands formed the dry land.

All:

Oh come, let us worship and bow down;

let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!

For he is our God, and we are the people

of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand.

Amen!

Merciful God

Eternal and merciful God,

you have loved us with a love

beyond our understanding,

and you have set us on paths of righteousness

for your name’s sake.

Yet we have strayed from your way;

we have sinned against you in

thought, word, and deed,

through what we have done

and what we have left undone.

As we remember the glorious gift of your grace,

we praise and give you thanks that we stand forgiven

through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Grant us now, we pray,

the grace to die daily to sin,

and to rise daily to new life in Christ,

who lives and reigns with you,

and in whose strong name we pray.

Amen!

Eternal Father

Eternal Father, God of my soul,
Let my first thought be of You today,
Let my first impulse be to worship You
Let my first speech be in praise of Your holy name
Let my first action be to bow my heart,
mind and soul before You

I thank You for Your perfect wisdom and goodness
I thank You for Your steadfast love
I thank You for Your Holy Spirit
Who fills my heart with faith and hope

From these moments of worship alongside Your people
Keep me chaste in thought
Keep me temperate and truthful
Keep me faithful and diligent
Keep me humble in my estimation of myself
Keep me honorable and generous in my dealings with others
Keep me loyal to every hallowed memory of the past
Keep me mindful of my eternal destiny as Your child

O God, you have been my refuge in times past,
Be now my refuge today in every circumstance
Be my guide through all that is dark and doubtful
Be my guard against all that threatens my spirit’s welfare
Be my strength in times of testing
Gladden my heart with Your peace

That I may sing of my Redeemer, Jesus Christ, the Lord. Amen!
