Mark 5:1-20

Welcome to Timeless Truth with Pastor Jim Thomas. In season 2, Pastor Jim is leading us in a study of Mark. Today’s passage is Mark 5:1-20.

1. There is an enemy of your soul.

“There are two equal and opposite errors into which our race can fall about the devils. One is to disbelieve in their existence. The other is to believe, and to feel an excessive and unhealthy interest in them. They are equally pleased by both errors and hail a materialist or a magician with the same delight.”
– C. S. Lewis, Screwtape Letters

Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you. Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
– 1 Peter 5:6-8

2. No one is beyond restoration by the power, grace, and mercy of Jesus Christ.

“Self-righteousness is being convinced you are above and beyond the need for rescuing, transforming, delivering grace.”
– Paul Tripp

3. Some people want Jesus to leave. Some people want Jesus to lead.

“In every generation, the people who have found God have been those who have come to the end of themselves. Recognizing their hopelessness, they have been ready to throw themselves on the mercy and grace of a forgiving God.”
– A. W. Tozer

4. Redemption is contagious!

“We are stewards of what God has said, but heralds of what God has done.  Our stewardship is of an accomplished revelation; but an accomplished redemption is the good news which we proclaim as heralds.”
– John Stott
