Call To Worship: Faithfulness of God

ALL: For the word of the LORD is right and true; He is faithful in all He does.

MEN: Your love, O LORD, reaches to the heavens; Your faithfulness to the skies.

WOMEN: But You, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.

MEN: For the LORD is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations.

WOMEN: O LORD, hear my prayer, listen to my cry for mercy; in Your faithfulness and righteousness come to my relief.

MEN: The LORD is faithful to all His promises and loving toward all He has made.

ALL: For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Classic Prayer: Bernard of Clairvaux

O Lord, come quickly and reign on your throne, for now often something rises up within me, and tries to take possession of your throne: pride, covetousness, uncleanness, and sloth want to be my kings, and then evil-speaking, anger, hatred, fear, and the whole train of vices join with me in warring against myself, and try to reign over me. I resist them; I cry out against them, and say, “I have no other king than Christ.” O King of peace, come and reign in me, for I will have no king but you!
Amen.

Creed: The Providence of God

Leader: What do you understand by the providence of God?

People: Providence is the almighty and ever-present power of God by which God upholds, as with His hand, heaven and earth and all creatures, and so rules them that leaf and blade, rain and drought, fruitful and lean years, food and drink, health and sickness, prosperity and poverty – all things, in fact, come to us not by chance but by His fatherly hand.

Leader: How does the knowledge of God’s creation and providence help us?

People: We can be patient in adversity, thankful in prosperity, and for the future we can have good confidence in our faithful God and Father that no creature will separate us from His love. For all creatures are so completely in His hand that without His will they can neither move nor be moved.
