Call To Worship: O’Oriens

LEADER: O Radiant Dawn, splendor of eternal light, sun of justice, come and shine on those who dwell in darkness and in the shadow of death!

PEOPLE: The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in the land of deep darkness, on them a light has shown.

LEADER: The true light, which gives light to everyone, has come into the world!

ALL: Through the heartfelt mercies of our God, God’s Sunrise will break in upon us, shining on those in the darkness, guiding our feet on the path of peace. Amen!

Classic Prayer: John Goter

Most gracious Lord, by whose direction this time is appointed for renewing the memory of Thy infinite mercy to man in the incarnation of Thy only Son, grant that I may live this holy time in the spirit of thanksgiving, and every day raise up my heart to Thee in the grateful acknowledgement of what Thou hast done for us. Besides this, I ask Thy grace, O God, that I may make a due use of this holy time, for preparing my soul to receive Christ our Lord coming into the world at the approaching solemnity of Christmas. Christ came into the world to do good to all. … in all things, O God, may I follow the spirit of charity, being forward in bringing comfort and relief to all, as far as their circumstances shall require, and mine permit. Grant, O Lord, that I may prepare …for the arrival of… our Redeemer.
