Call To Worship: At The Cross
Most merciful God,
thank You for sending to us Your Son, Jesus.
We remember this day His redeeming death,
that we might stand forgiven at the cross.
Thank You for sending to us Your Son, Jesus,
to whom we belong, in life and in death.
He bore our infirmities and carried our sorrows.Most holy God,
thank You for sending to us Your Son, Jesus,
who became sin for us and suffered
the punishment due to us,
that we might stand forgiven at the cross.

Prayer
Henry Scougal 17thc Scottish theologian, minister and author, and professor of divinity at King’s College University of Aberdeen. He is best known for his work, The Life of God in the Soul of Man, originally written to a friend to explain Christianity. Leaders of the Great Awakening loved the book, and George Whitefield was quoted as saying he never really understood what true religion was until he read Scougal’s treatise. Our prayer today is taken from that work, and is for us to be filled with God’s word and truth, that we might love the world.
Fill our souls with such a deep sense and full persuasion of those great truths which thou hast revealed in the gospel, as may influence and regulate our whole conversation; and that the life which we henceforth live in the flesh, we may live through faith in the Son of God. O that the infinite perfections of thy blessed nature, and the astonishing expressions of thy goodness and love, may conquer and overpower our hearts, that they may be constantly rising toward thee in flames of the devoutest affection, and enlarging themselves in sincere and cordial love towards all the world, for thy sake.
