Mark 13:14-23

Welcome to Timeless Truth with Pastor Jim Thomas. In season 2, Pastor Jim is leading us in a study of Mark. Today’s passage is Mark 13:14-23

Additional signs of the end. What had been…

  1. Be on the alert, on guard, take heed v. 5, 9, 23, 33, 37
  2. Don’t be misled v. 5
  3. Don’t be afraid v. 7
  4. Be ready to serve as witnesses v. 9-11
  5. Persevere until the end v. 12-13

Now becomes, run, run, run!! What changed? What was Jesus referring to? Along with the disciples we want to ask When? What are the warning signs?

As with much of biblical prophecy we find there may be multiple layers of fulfillment in what Jesus was talking about.

“An eschatological orientation isn’t only about future expectation but also a recalibration of our present.”
James K. A. Smith, How to Inhabit Time: Understanding the Past, Facing the Future, Living Faithfully Now

“If we have any hope at all, our hope is eschatological – that God will at last make this sad, old world new again.”
Tish Harrison Warren, Prayer in the Night
