Glory and Guidance

  1. Glory revealed (33:18-34:9)
  2. Covenant restored (34:10-35)
  3. Tabernacle built (35-39)

1. What is the Glory of God? (33:18-34:9)

  1. Beauty of His presence
  2. Excellent reputation of His name
  3. Perfect works of His character

2. Absurdity of God’s Grace

“34:10 – And He said: “Behold, I make a covenant. Before all your people I will do marvels such as have not been done in all the earth, nor in any nation; and all the people among whom you are shall see the work of the LORD. For it is an awesome thing that I will do with you.”

  • 34:11 – Observe
  • 34:12 – Take heed
  • 34:13 – Destroy
  • 34:18 – Keep
  • 34:21 – Rest

3. The Art of Worship

“And Moses said to the children of Israel, ‘See, the LORD has called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah; 31 and He has filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom and understanding, in knowledge and all manner of workmanship, to design artistic works, to work in gold and silver and bronze, in cutting jewels for setting, in carving wood, and to work in all manner of artistic workmanship.'”
Exodus 35:30-32

  • Beauty is an outworking of our worship to God
  • Generosity is a response to God’s grace (36:4-7)
  • The Ark is a precursor to Christ’s work (37:1-9)

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.”
Romans 3:23-25

4. The Presence of God

  • Preparation for the people by setting up the Tabernacle
  • Preparation for the priests by cleansing them
  • Presence of God for their good and guidance

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”
John 1:14

“I give praise to your holy Nature, Lord, for you have made my nature a sanctuary for your hiddenness and a tabernacle for your mysteries, a place where you can dwell and a holy temple for your divinity.”
St. Isaac of Nineveh
