Psalm 31 (2021)

My Times are in Your Hand

King David proclaims “My Times are in Your Hands” in this Psalm, in the midst of danger and suffering. How did this claim affect the way he viewed his circumstances? What does it mean for us to make this same claim in our own lives, and view God as completely sovereign in all things? Join Pastor Matt as he leads us through Psalm 31.

“Hope in the Bible is confidence about what will happen coupled with ignorance about its timing.”
J. Alec Motyer, New Bible Commentary

Whose hands are your times in? “It is an absurd folly that miserable men take it upon themselves to act without God, when they cannot even speak except He wills.”
ohn Calvin, Institutes of the Christian Religion

“Sovereign Ruler of the skies! Ever gracious, ever wise! All my times are in Thy hand, All events at Thy command. Plagues and deaths around me fly, Till He bids I cannot die: Not a single shaft can hit Till the God of love thinks fit.”
John Ryland (1777)

“The even place on which our foot stands is the sure covenant faithfulness of the Lord of Hosts; there is no fear of falling from this solid basis, or of its being removed from under us.”
C.H. Spurgeon

“We can be patient in adversity, thankful in prosperity, and for the future we can have good confidence in our faithful God and Father that no creature will separate us from His love…”
Jim Thomas or Alistair Begg

“If we ask…Why does God allow evil and suffering to continue, and we look at the cross of Jesus, we still do not know what the answer is. However, we know what the answer isn’t. It can’t be that He doesn’t love us.”
Tim Keller

“If God has given His Son to die for us, let us beware of doubting His kindness and love in any painful providence of our daily life.”
J.C. Ryle

“Place your wounded hands in mine and raise me up, that even grief itself may turn to grace.”
Malcolm Guite, David’s Crown

“When we see the love of Jesus, we see the fullness of God….there is no shadow side of God; no hidden deception or darkness behind the God revealed in Jesus. The God we pray to is the God who loves us – endlessly, relentlessly, patiently, and powerfully.”
Tish Harrison Warren, Prayer in the Night
