  4. Affirm the identity claims of Jesus
  5. Inspire people to worship Jesus

This passage has something to say about…

  1. The Identity of Jesus Christ
  2. The Claims of Jesus Christ
  3. The Mission of Jesus Christ
  4. The Message of Jesus Christ
  5. The Impact of Jesus Christ

“Jesus is mysterious not just because of what we don’t know about him, but because of what we do know about him.”
– John Ortberg, Who is This Man?

“Believe in God, believe also in me”
“I am the way, the truth and the life.”
“No one comes to the Father except through me”“If you knew me, you would know my Father”
“Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.”
–Jesus of Nazareth

“Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?” And Jesus said: “I am; and you shall see the SON OF MAN SITTING AT THE RIGHT HAND OF POWER, and COMING WITH THE CLOUDS OF HEAVEN.”
– Mark 14:61-62

• Jesus claimed that He was the fulfillment of Old Testament scripture
• Jesus received the worship of many who fell at His feet. That is, He accepted what should only have been given to God.
• Jesus claimed the authority to forgive people of their sins. That’s an authority only God can claim.
• Jesus also claimed that on judgment day, He would be the one to decide the fate of all. That’s something only God can claim.

“So I ask myself a question a lot of people have asked: Who is this man? And was He who He said He was, or was He just a religious nut?”
– Bono

“The ultimate question is absolutely plain, even to the man in the street to whom semantics, culture, and theology are all closed books.  It is this: is Jesus to be worshiped or only to be admired?  If he is God, then he is worthy of our worship, faith, and obedience; if he is not God, then to give him such devotion is idolatry.”
– John Stott
