Sermon Notes

In preparing to run, let us…

  1. Lay aside our hindrances
  2. Run with endurance
  3. Fix our eyes on Jesus

To run well, let us…

  1. Consider Christ
  2. Respect the direction and correction of the Lord
  3. Strengthen the hands that are weak/knees that are feeble
  4. Make straight paths toward God
  5. Pursue peace with others
  6. Remain obedient, grateful, and reverent towards God
  7. Lavish grace on everyone
  8. Reject bitterness

“Not everyone who grows old, grows up. There is a difference between age and maturity. Just because a person has been saved for ten or twenty years does not guarantee that he is mature in the Lord.”
Warren Wiersbe

“There is a great market for religious experience in our world; there is little enthusiasm for the patient acquisition of virtue, little inclination to sign up for a long apprenticeship in what earlier generations of Christians called holiness.”
Eugene Peterson, A Long Obedience in the Same Direction

“Today admit your need, seek God’s help, celebrate his love, live for his glory, study his wisdom, work for his kingdom, rest in his grace.”
Paul Tripp

Yet those who wait for the LORD
Will gain new strength;
They will mount up with wings like eagles,
They will run and not get tired,
They will walk and not become weary.
Isaiah 40:31

“When we look at the true God, and wait on him, we find that, when there is mounting up to be done, we can do it with eagles’ wings; when there is running to be done, we can do it without weariness; and when there is walking to be done, we can do it-worthy of the Lord-without fainting.”
N. T. Wright, Small Faith-Great God
