Abel is an example of faith worshiping. v. 4

“Our lives are not puzzles to be figured out. Rather, we come to God, who knows us and reveals to us the truth of our lives. The fundamental mistake is to begin with ourselves and not God. God is the center from which all life develops. If we use our ego as the center from which to plot the geometry of our lives, we will live eccentrically.”
Eugene H. Peterson, Run with the Horses

“God isn’t asking you to come to Christ just to attain peace of mind or become a better person. You were created to worship.”
A. W. Tozer

Enoch is an example of faith walking. vv. 5-6

“For the Christian believer devotion to God is more than the regular act of religious worship or the occasional presentation of some sacrificial gift. All life belongs to God and our righteousness has to extend to the whole of life. Those who possess true faith walk with God day after day.”
Raymond Brown

Noah is an example of faith heeding God’s wise warning. v. 7

“Noah is a splendid example of the attentive believer, eager to hear what God is saying and ready to do what he commands.”
Raymond Brown

Abraham and Sarah are an example of faith waiting. v. 8-16

“Not all who wander are lost.”
J. R. R. Tolkien

“Faith can operate in the life of any person who will dare to listen to God’s Word and surrender to God’s will.”
Warren Wiersbe

“Faith is a living, daring confidence in God’s grace, so sure and certain that a man could stake his life on it a thousand times.”
Martin Luther

“In every generation Christian obedience has powerful evangelistic value. Men and women are influenced not only by what we say to them, but by the way we respond to what God says to us.”
Raymond Brown
