Ephesians 1:13-14
Welcome to Timeless Truth with Pastor Jim Thomas. In season 1, Pastor Jim is leading us in a study of Ephesians. Today’s passage is Ephesians 1:13-14
Ephesians is Trinitarian:
- God the Father – administrating salvation, choosing and calling us v3-6
- God the Son – accomplishing salvation in His death on the cross, purchasing our redemption and the forgiveness of our sins v7-12
- God the Spirit – applying salvation through regeneration, sanctification and sealing His work in us v13-14
“God is both the goal of our journey and the means by which we find him. We come to the Father through the Son in the power of the Holy Spirit.”
– Alister McGrath
The Holy Spirit’s role in our lives:
- Convinces us of the truth regeneration, revelation, redemption
- Convicts us of our sin
- Converts us into new creatures in Christ
- Connects us to the body of Christ
- Comforts us in our trials
- Conforms us into the image of Christ
“I not only need the content of God’s word, but I also need the help of the Holy Spirit to enable me to understand it, to assist me to apply it, to empower me to live it, and to equip me to take its message to others. God rescues me from my foolishness not just by handing me a book, but also by giving me himself to open the wisdom of that book to me.”
– Paul David Tripp, Do You Believe?
