Sermon Notes

1. God is the impartial initiator.

“There is a wideness in God’s mercies that we would do well to emulate on earth, for we will certainly find it in heaven.”
Douglas J. W. Milne
Let’s Study Luke

“Our Christian life began not with our decision to follow Christ but with God’s call to us to do so. He took the initiative in his grace while we were still in rebellion and sin. In that state we neither wanted to turn from sin to Christ, nor were we able to. But he came to us and called us to freedom.”
John Stott

2. God welcomes all who fear Him and do what is right.

“I want neither a terrorist spirituality that keeps me in a perpetual state of fright about being in right relationship with my heavenly Father nor a sappy spirituality that portrays God as such a benign teddy bear that there is no aberrant behavior or desire of mine that he will not condone.”
Brennan Manning
Ruthless Trust

3. God offers forgiveness of sins through Jesus Christ, to all who believe in His name!

“Stooping very low, He engraves with care His Name, indelible, upon our dust, And, from the ashes of our self-despair, Kindles a flame of hope and humble trust. He seeks no second site on which to build, But on the old foundation, stone by stone, Cementing sad experience with grace, Fashions a stronger temple of His own.” – Patricia St. John
