Young Life Capernaum
Young Life Capernaum is an outreach ministry that reaches out to teens and young adults (ages 14-22) with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Our volunteer leaders meet students and Capernaum friends by going to the schools and spending time with them during lunches, getting meals outside of school, and doing whatever our friends with disabilities like to do together. We have Capernaum Club on Monday Nights at Sevier Park Community Center, where we have a leader share the Gospel, play silly games, and sing songs together after sharing a meal. It is a party with a purpose and we fully believe that our friends with disabilities deserve a place to be themselves and belong with dignity and know that they are made fearfully and wonderfully by a creative and loving God.
We always love having folks come and join us for Capernaum clubs as adult helpers to be extra hands and help with food, meet our Capernaum friends, and add to the excitement. Our most significant need is more male volunteer leaders, primarily for summer camps and meeting new students with disabilities. Small groups can provide a meal by paying for pizza and bring it to clubs to spend time with our friends. This has been incredibly helpful for the leaders and staff, and it gives members of the Nashville community a glimpse into the world of those with disabilities and lets them see how capable they truly are. Young Life Capernaum wants to provide a more dignified environment for all our friends. For more information or to volunteer, please reach out to [email protected].
