Compassion International
For 25 years, The Village Chapel has been grateful for a deep and meaningful partnership with Compassion International — a relationship that began at our very first gathering as a church. When the 30 or so people who would become TVC took up an offering, one of our founding members, who worked at Compassion at the time, suggested using the gift to sponsor a child. In God’s providence, the amount collected was exactly what was needed to support one child for a full year. And so, our very first offering was given away in its entirety — marking the beginning of our shared ministry with Compassion.
Since that day, TVCers have sponsored more than 200 children in four communities in Guatemala: Patzicia, San Antonio Nejapa, Santa Apolonia, and Las Victorias. Over the years, many from our church have traveled on mission trips to serve in these villages and meet their sponsored children face-to-face. For some, the children they first sponsored are now grown — having completed school, started families, and even become parents themselves. Now, many in our church are sponsoring the next generation. It is a beautiful testimony to the power of faithful, Christ-centered relationship and to the life-changing work God is doing through Compassion.
Compassion International shares the hope of the gospel in both word and deed, releasing children from poverty in Jesus’ name. Working through more than 8,000 local churches in 29 countries, Compassion cares for vulnerable children — mind, body, and soul — so they may experience the fullness of life Jesus promised (John 10:10). Through child sponsorship, children receive spiritual nurture, protection from abuse, access to healthcare, educational support, and help in times of disaster.
This holistic care restores the health, hope, and opportunity that poverty steals, empowering children to become confident followers of Jesus who are equipped to serve others and transform their communities.
We are thankful that our partnership with Compassion continues today, allowing us to support children in “our” Guatemalan communities as well as those who have been waiting the longest for sponsors.
