God our Father-
It has been a long Good Friday year…
Church doors have been sealed
The bells have not pealed
We’ve worn masks as a shield
Loved ones unseen, hands scrubbed but unclean, Lord where have you been?
It’s been a long Good Friday year.
The tears came unending
The sick needed mending
The soul cried for tending
Earth shuddered, hope stuttered, alleluias only muttered
Through this long Good Friday year.
And though we long to come near
come close enough to hear
to bend low and peer –
It’s been a long Good Friday year.
Perhaps the three days have passed
The risen savior at last
Defeating death’s cold grasp
Good Friday done, our redemption won, by the gift of God’s son
Resurrection mornings … never ending
Glorias restored,
the redeemer adored,
our savior and Lord
Who by grace we believed, what our hearts have perceived, of the gift we’ve received
forgiveness from sin, again and again, Amen and amen.
