The Annunciation story in Luke 1:26-38 where the angel Gabriel tells young Mary that she will give birth to the Son of God offers us a beautiful opportunity to discuss humility before the Lord. When we are aware of who God is, and who we are in relationship to him, our position of humility is a more natural stance. Our response to the tasks and circumstances of our lives takes a similar trajectory - “be it done to me according to your word.”. 33 years later, her son and our Savior would go to the cross in similar humility, with a similar prayer.
