Home Groups

If you are looking for community that goes beyond our Sunday Worship Services, joining a Home Group is one of the best ways to connect with our church body on a deeper level. Each group involves a time of fellowship, discussion and prayer, but that’s where the similarities end. They all have their own unique personalities, allowing you to find the group that is the best fit for you.
You read that right. At The Village Chapel, we believe in developing community that doesn’t feel “forced.” That means that we don’t assign you to a small group based on your zip code or the first letter of your last name. Instead, we offer nearly three dozen groups throughout the metro Nashville area and beyond that meet on different days of the week, and you to choose the group that is right for you. You may want to visit several groups to find that perfect fit or contact us and we can make suggestions. Questions? Contact [email protected]. {emailcloak=off}

Home Groups

Home Groups are an essential way to cultivate discipleship, nurture connection and maintain fellowship with others at TVC. We are not meant to walk the Christian life alone. For many, the care that happens in Home Groups makes the difference between isolation and belonging, hope and despair. We welcome and encourage you to plug in and find a group where you can serve and be served.

Bear Fruit at TVC

A community shaped by the mercy and grace of Christ is marked by love and service to each other. After making TVC your church home and being intentional about growing roots, bearing fruit is the natural outcome. No matter your gifting or schedule, there are many ways to serve at TVC! Home Groups

Are you looking to get more involved at TVC and grow stronger in your faith? Home Groups are one of the best ways to connect and find deeper community (often right in your neighborhood!) that goes beyond our Sunday worship services. At The Village Chapel we believe in developing community that doesn’t feel “forced.” Instead of having assigned small groups, we offer what we simply refer to as TVC Home Groups. You choose a group based on location, day of the week, a connection with the leaders, etc. Then you just plug in. Each group involves a time of fellowship, discussion and prayer, but they develop different personalities based on the people who attend. Learn more about each group below.

Current Home Groups v6

If you are looking for community that goes beyond our weekend meetings, joining a Home Group is one of the best ways to connect with our church body. We have more than two dozen groups that meet weekly or every other week on various nights during the school year at locations all around Nashville. Some continue to meet during the summer months, but be sure to check before showing up.

At The Village Chapel we believe in developing community that doesn’t feel “forced.” Instead of having permanent, assigned small groups based on your zip code or the first letter of your last name, you can choose any group you want. For your convenience, they’re sorted by location, day of the week, etc. Each group involves a time of fellowship, discussion and prayer, but they develop different personalities based on the people who attend. Some groups require a semester-long commitment while others are open for those who need the flexibility to come and go or who want the freedom to try a few different groups before settling in. Click on any link below for more information on a specific group. Once you find the right group for you, click on the “email leader” button.

Eric & Julie Sumner Home Group

Where: South Green Hills

When: every other Wednesday, 7 pm

Studying: 2 Samuel

Our home group meets every other Wednesday evening at 7 pm in the home of Julie and Eric Sumner and their vivacious and sweet Boxer mix, Daisy. We will be following along with Pastor Jim as he leads us through the book of Hebrews. We are a multi-generational group of couples and singles, and about half of us are involved in medicine in some way. We love coffee and tea, as well as cookies and chocolate, but mostly we love to catch up with each other as we study and pray. We are prone to have potlucks as well. Currently we do not have childcare.

Home Groups: Mission & Vision

Leaders/Hosts Covenant

The Village Chapel Home Groups Mission Statement: Why do we exist?

The Village Chapel Home Groups exist to nourish and support the mission of our larger church body of believers, to enfold and embrace newcomers, and to deepen a sense of fellowship, belonging and community as we grow deeper in Christ together.

Goals: What do we seek to accomplish?

To embody the ministry of The Village Chapel within smaller, family-like units, meeting in homes with a “living room” atmosphere, where spiritual growth is pursued, honesty is encouraged, prayer is offered, and deeper relationships are nurtured.

Vision: What results do we hope to see?

People growing in relationship with each other, leaning on one another for love, encouragement, and prayer, serving and worshipping the Lord together. Each group is connected to the others, to The Village Chapel, to the body of Christ as a whole, and to our Lord Jesus Christ.

Four things we ask of those who attend:

Commitment, Candor, Confidentiality, Community

What we do not do: So that everyone has a chance to be heard and/or ministered to, we don’t allow any one individual to dominate the group’s discussion or prayer time. In order to keep our focus on the Lord and our unity in Christ, we do NOT discuss politics, social or theologically controversial issues that may divide us. If there are persistent questions about these things, we will ask TVC’s Home Groups Coordinator for advice.

The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ.
Ephesians 4:16

They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Acts 2:42

Covenant:

As a Home Group Leader/Host, I recognize there are both freedoms and responsibilities that come with this kind of servant leadership.

I will commit to serving under the mission, goal and vision of TVC Home Groups. I will do all that I can to foster commitment, confidentiality, candor and community in my group.

I commit to using approved curriculum to lead and teach our group. I recognize that a list of pre-approved curriculum is available by contacting TVC’s Home Groups Coordinator and that I have access to Right Now Media content. If I have a book or study that is outside of these options, I will bring it to the Home Groups Coordinator to be considered for approval at least 6 weeks before I would plan on using it, to give ministerial leadership the ability to read, research and approve the book or study.

For the sake of unity in the church and out of love for the group, I commit to speaking with ministerial leadership (MLT) should anything arise within the group that is uncharacteristic of the mission, vision and goals of TVC Home Groups.

For Home Group Leaders & Hosts

“Leadership does not begin with a title or a position. It begins the moment you are concerned more about others’ flourishing than you are about your own.” – Andy Crouch, Strong and Weak

In his excellent daily devotional book, New Morning Mercies, Paul Tripp says, “It is in a community of humble love that we are best positioned to understand all that God has said to us in His Word.” That’s one of the reasons TVC places such a high value on our Home Groups AND one of the reasons I am so thankful for each of you who open your homes and/or lead these loving communities of TVCers!
-Pastor Jim

Joe is in music production and songwriting, while I stay at home with our two young children, Jack (3) and Rosie (10 months). Our house is busy, to say the least, and you might hear the pitter patter of little feet getting into bed as you are welcomed in. We hope this group will be a place people from every stage of life feel welcome and safe to engage in deep, lasting community as we dive into God’s word, ask tough questions and apply it personally to our lives. And of course, we’ll provide the coffee and dessert!

Our hope is to foster a curiosity-driven community built on close reading, deep thinking, earnest listening, and periodic dad jokes. We have a 15-month-old daughter and a dog who can’t wait to be your friends. No matter your background or age, if you’re interested in growing together through study and conversation, we’d love to have you.

Where: Hillsboro Village

When: Thursdays, 7 pm

Studying: TVC Sunday sermon study and discussion

Welcome to the Young Professionals Home Group! No ties or business attire required. We study through books of the bible & encourage various members to take up leading the study on a week by week basis. We hope to provide a deeper sense of community by allowing members of the church to find people of similar season in life to pray, learn, & grow with during our Thursday fellowship. We also hope you make a few friends along the way!

We welcome couples and singles. We look forward to meeting you.

TVC Young Professionals Homegroup is currently meeting on Zoom! This group is co-led by TVCers Miles Oakley and Sydney Matthieu. Reach out to get the link for our Thursday meeting.

Where: East Nashville (Riverside/Shelby)

When: Every other Wednesday, 6 pm

Studying: TBD

Married Aug 23, 2003, we are the proud parents of a 9-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl. We have lived in East Nashville for 14 years and started attending TVC East a little over two years ago. It is important for us to create a comfortable environment for other TVC families to learn about each other, the gospel and life. We hope to be a safe place where we can ask questions, challenge each other and pray for each other.

Home Groups

If you are looking for community that goes beyond our weekend meetings, joining a Home Group is one of the best ways to connect with our church body.

At The Village Chapel we believe in developing community that doesn’t feel “forced.” Instead of having permanent, assigned small groups based on your zip code or the first letter of your last name, we have chosen to offer what we simply refer to as TVC Home Groups. You choose the group you want to visit and when you find one that seems like a good fit, go ahead and plug in. Each group involves a time of fellowship, discussion and prayer.

More than three dozen groups meet every other week on various nights during the school year at locations all around Nashville. For the listings below, the ones marked with either an asterisk (*) or NEW still have open availability, so click the link for one in your area to find out more.  Questions? Contact homegroups@thevillagechapel.com. {emailcloak=off}

Many of our more than three dozen Home Groups are on break for the summer, but it’s not too early to start thinking about joining a group this fall. We’ll roll out the updated list of new and returning groups by Labor Day, but you can get an idea now by reviewing the list below or email homegroups@thevillagechapel.com for more info.

Horn Home Group

WHERE: Donelson

WHEN: Sundays from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm

CURRENTLY STUDYING: TBD

As parents of two young girls, we know it’s hard to be a working family and meet for home group during the week. So, our family-friendly home group meets on Sunday afternoons (every other Sunday) from 4-6 PM at our house off Donelson Pike in Nashville. The group consists mostly of young families but all are welcome for a time of prayer, study, fellowship, and sometimes food. Our friends Pax and Mandy Weimers will be co-leading.
